Boxtop presents Comedian Sue Costello September 9, 1998 Comedian Sue Costello stopped by Talk City to discuss her FOX sitcom "Costello" and answer questions about her life, her career, and how she got revenge on the guy who dumped her! CCCMyst: Talk City Presents, in association with iXL Live, welcomes you to Tonight's Feature Presentation! And now without further ado, please welcome Sue Costello. Sue, welcome to Talk City! Sue Costello: Hi! Mysterygirl: Sue, welcome to Talk City! Your new show sounds great, tell us about it! Sue Costello: It's like a soap set in Boston and partly like the movie Educating Rita. Beverly: What type of research did you have to do for "Costello"? Sue Costello: It's based on my real life, so I lived it! Chloe: Have there been any 'bloopers' so far on the show? Sue Costello: Yeah, there have been some very funny things! The woman who plays my mother is completely different from real life, so when she messes up it's quite outrageous and very funny! Corky: I read that on your pilot show you dump your boyfriend for your career - is this autobiographical? Sue Costello: No, I actually rewrote history, my boyfriend dumped me. He broke my heart. When I did this show, I said that I'm going to rewrite history and dump him. When I was 18, he broke my heart. Doc: How did you feel when your debut last night got pre-empted for baseball? Was it a let down? Sue Costello: Yes, it was an extreme let down. I was very excited and then I cried. Therow: Who plays your dad on the show? He looks really familiar. Sue Costello: That's Dan Lauria from the Wonder Years. Henry: Sue, where do you get your ideas for the character you play on the show? Sue Costello: It's based on my real life. They're my own ideas. Popcorn: I guess the other well know show that took place in a bar was Cheers. How does your saloon differ? Sue Costello: Mine is much more blue collar and a little bit more edgy. Hopefully my show is just as fun! Salem: What is the hardest part about going from standup to a sitcom? Sue Costello: It's realizing that you can't pay attention to a live audience. When you're filming a movie, you don't have the live audience. While filming a sitcom, you try to connect with the audience. Calem: Have you done any comedy dates on the west coast? Will you be doing some stand up performances soon? Sue Costello: Yes, I will! As soon as the show premieres I will be doing more. I'm not sure when that will be, I won't have specific dates until the show premieres. McGwire: Do you get confused with the actress from Dharma and Greg? Jenna Elfman? You both resemble one another. Sue Costello: Everybody says that, except that she's like seven feet tall and I'm five foot three! It's a compliment because she's very pretty. Monique: What inspired you to get into acting as a career? Sue Costello: I went to school for theater and took one course to check it out. A teacher told me that I belonged in the theater. Poptart: A friend of a friend is your brother on the show, Jimmy, he says you are really funny.do you have a big family? Sue Costello: No, I have 3 siblings. Simonsghost: Where do you call home - East or West coast or in between? Sue Costello: Home is in between.
